JUST IN: ADC NAMES OKUMGBA AS RIVERS DEPUTY GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has nominated David Amapakaye Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.

The announcement was made in a statement by the party's State Publicity Secretary, Chizi Enyi, who described Okumgba as an experienced administrator and political leader with extensive experience in party administration.

According to the ADC, Okumgba's experience and understanding of Rivers State's political landscape make him a strong running mate to the party's governorship candidate, Gabriel Pidomson. 

The party said the ticket represents competence, accountability and a shared vision for good governance and economic development, while urging members and supporters to rally behind the candidates ahead of the election.

ASU EKIYE CLARIFIES CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING DIVORCE

Gospel music minister Asu Ekiye has offered clarification on the circumstances surrounding the dissolution of his 28-year marriage, following numerous calls and messages seeking to understand what led to the separation. In a statement, Ekiye explained that the decision to end the marriage was not initiated by him, but by his wife, who, according to him, expressed her desire to end the relationship, moved out of their home and subsequently commenced divorce proceedings. He stated that for about a year after the separation, he made several efforts and appeals towards reconciliation, hoping that the marriage could be preserved. The Aleto community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State has renewed its call for transparency, accountability and justice over funds allegedly allocated to landowners and host communities connected to Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals, Fertiliser and Super-Packaging companies. Aleto is one of the six host communities to Indorama Eleme. The community says it donated about 159 hectares of land out of approximately 369 hectares used for the development of the company, with the land forming part of the equity arrangement involving the host communities.
