COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE KHANA LOCAL GOVERNMENT STAKEHOLDERS' MEETING HELD ON SUNDAY, 19TH JULY, 2026, AT THE SUANU NWIKA FINIMALE CONFERENCE HALL, BORI

KHANA STAKEHOLDERS RESOLVE TO TACKLE INSECURITY, REJECT ILLEGAL TRADITIONAL STOOL

A stakeholders' meeting convened and chaired by the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere, DSSRS, CNA, was held on Sunday, 19th July, 2026, at the Suanu Nwika Finimale Conference Hall, Bori.

The meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere, DSSRS, CNA; the Member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dum Dekor; former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Leyii Kwanee; former Executive Chairmen; former Vice Chairmen; former Caretaker Committee (CTC) Chairmen; elected representatives at the National and State Assemblies (past and present); government-recognised traditional rulers; paramount rulers; elected councillors (past and present); former commissioners and special advisers; board members (past and present); Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairmen and Secretaries; youth presidents and secretaries; political party leaders; women leaders; trade and motorcycle union leaders; Bori Landlords Association; church leaders; student leaders (past and present); Renewed Hope Ambassadors; heads of security agencies; political appointees; members of the media; and other critical stakeholders from across Khana Local Government Area.
Following exhaustive deliberations on issues affecting the peace, security, and traditional institutions of Khana, the stakeholders unanimously resolved as follows:

1. That Khana Local Government Area remains peaceful and stable, and that the recent security incidents in parts of the area are clashes among known criminal groups struggling for supremacy and control of their criminal activities, and should not be misconstrued as a general breakdown of law and order.

2. The stakeholders commended the Nigerian Police, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies for their ongoing operations and recent raids on criminal hideouts within Khana. The meeting urged them to sustain the operations until all his criminal elements are apprehended.

3. The meeting reaffirmed its total support for all lawful security operations and pledged the cooperation of communities with security agencies in identifying and exposing criminals and their sponsors. Residents of Khana were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while promptly reporting suspicious persons, movements, and activities to the appropriate security agencies. The stakeholders emphasized that security is a collective responsibility.

4. Traditional rulers, community leaders, political office holders, youth and women leaders, and government officials were called upon to work closely with security agencies by providing credible intelligence capable of preventing crime and maintaining peace. Parents and guardians were urged to monitor their children and wards and discourage them from cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, drug abuse, and every other form of criminality.

5. The stakeholders unanimously rejected the creation, recognition, or operation of any illegal traditional stool in any part of Khana Local Government Area. The meeting reaffirmed that only traditional stools created and recognized in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Rivers State shall be accorded legitimacy and respect. Accordingly, the stakeholders declared that there is no traditional stool known as "Menebua Bori" in Khana Local Government Area and urged the public to disregard any claim or representation to the contrary, as such has no legal or traditional recognition.

6. The meeting warned individuals and groups promoting parallel or unauthorized traditional institutions to desist forthwith, noting that such actions are capable of undermining the peace, unity, and cultural heritage of the Khana people.

7. The stakeholders commended the leadership of Rt. Hon. Dum Dekor, Rt. Hon. Leyii Kwanee, and Dr. Thomas Bariere, DSSRS, CNA, for their commitment to peace, security, unity, and the overall development of Khana, and called for sustained collaboration among all leaders irrespective of political affiliation.

8. The meeting resolved to strengthen collaboration among government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders through regular consultations and intelligence sharing to safeguard lives, property, and public infrastructure.

9. The stakeholders expressed unwavering confidence in the capacity of the security agencies and reaffirmed their collective commitment to preserving peace, protecting the integrity of the traditional institution, and promoting sustainable development throughout Khana

SENATE BACKS FRSC BILL WITH N100,000 FINE AND TRAFFIC LIGHT VIOLATIONS, N50,000 FOR PREACHING IN BUSES

The Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing significantly tougher penalties for traffic offences across the country. Under the amendment, anyone convicted of “failure to obey traffic lights, road signs, pavement or road markings” will be liable to a N100,000 fine. The bill also prescribes a N50,000 fine for anyone found “hawking, trading or preaching” inside commercial buses. The proposed law further raises the penalty for driving under the influence of alcoh%l or intox+cating dr¥gs from N5,000 to N100,000, with offenders also facing up to two years’ imprisonment or both upon conviction.
