REMEMBER THAT FREEDOM YOU ENJOY IS BECAUSE OF THE SACRIFICES OF NIGERIA AND OTHERS - PRESIDENT TINUBU CONDEMNS XENOPHOBIC ATTACK IN SOUTH AFRICA

President Bola Tinubu has called on African leaders to speak with one voice in condemning the ongoing xenophobic att@cks in South Africa, insisting that such v+olence against fellow Africans must not be tolerated.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Tinubu said a united African stance would send a strong message that “this type of intolerance is totally unacceptable under any guise.”

He disclosed that Nigeria has “already evacuated over 1,490 of its citizens from harm’s way in seven batches and is prepared to engage further on this matter.”

Condemning the att@cks, the President said, “Nigeria condemns, in the strongest terms, the recent att@cks on its citizens and other Africans in the Republic of South Africa.”

He backed Ghana’s call for ECOWAS to jointly denounce the v+olence and present the issue at the next African Union summit.
Tinubu added that South Africa should not forget the role African nations played in its liberation.

“South Africa should be reminded that the freedom it currently enjoys is the result of the sacrifices and liberation efforts of African countries, including Nigeria,” he said.

The President also reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for the newly adopted ECOWAS Compact for the Future of Regional Integration, describing it as a roadmap for rebuilding trust, strengthening regional solidarity, and promoting peace, economic integration, and democratic governance across West Africa.

He stressed that Nigeria remains committed to constitutional governance, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and “zero tolerance for unconstitutional changes of government.”

Tinubu further pledged Nigeria’s continued support for the proposed ECOWAS Counter Terrorism Force, enhanced intelligence sharing, joint security operations, and initiatives aimed at removing trade barriers, improving cross-border infrastructure, and driving digital transformation across

SENATE BACKS FRSC BILL WITH N100,000 FINE AND TRAFFIC LIGHT VIOLATIONS, N50,000 FOR PREACHING IN BUSES

The Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing significantly tougher penalties for traffic offences across the country. Under the amendment, anyone convicted of “failure to obey traffic lights, road signs, pavement or road markings” will be liable to a N100,000 fine. The bill also prescribes a N50,000 fine for anyone found “hawking, trading or preaching” inside commercial buses. The proposed law further raises the penalty for driving under the influence of alcoh%l or intox+cating dr¥gs from N5,000 to N100,000, with offenders also facing up to two years’ imprisonment or both upon conviction. The Supreme Court on Friday, July 17, 2026 affirmed the final forfeiture of seven landed properties, the sum of $2,045,000 (Two Million, Forty-Five Thousand United States Dollars) and share certificates linked to a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
