ECONOMY IS RESPONDING VERY WELL TO TINUBU'S REFORMS - PRESIDENCY TACKLES OPPOSITION
The Presidency has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that Nigeria’s economy is responding positively despite criticism from opposition figures.
Temitope Ajayi, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, made the remarks on Monday while reacting to a report showing increased manufacturing activity and job creation under the administration.
In a post on X, Ajayi accused the opposition of painting a bleak picture of the country’s economy in hopes of gaining political support ahead of the next elections.
“While the opposition elements are content with selling doom and gloom with the hope their narratives will resonate and help them win next elections, the economy under President Tinubu is responding very well to the reforms. And the evidence is crystal clear,” he wrote.
To support his position, Ajayi highlighted figures showing that Nigeria’s manufacturing sector created 81,174 jobs in 2025, more than double the 34,769 jobs recorded in 2024.
The figures represent a 133.47 per cent year-on-year increase in employment within the sector.
According to the report, the growth was driven by a recovery in factory activity during the first half of 2025, supported by a more stable exchange rate for imported inputs, improved business confidence and increased exports of manufactured goods.
The figures were presented by Segun Ajayi-Kadir, Director-General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), at the association’s 54th Annual General Meeting in Lagos, according to BusinessDay.
Ajayi maintained that the employment figures offered clear evidence of progress under Tinubu’s economic reforms, while faulting opposition figures for focusing on negative narratives about the country’s economic situation.
