MOSOGP CONDEMNS ALLEGED CAMPAIGN OF BLACKMAIL AGAINST CHIEF LESI MAOL, CALLS FOR UNITY IN GOKANA AND OGONILAND.

The Movement for the Survival of the Gokana People (MOSOGP) has expressed strong concern over what it describes as the continued blackmail, unfounded allegations, and attempts to tarnish the reputation of prominent Gokana leader, Chief Lesi Maol, by Chief Gani Tonga.

In a statement signed by its President, Deenor Lucky, MOSOGP said the people of Gokana have for too long witnessed unnecessary divisions fueled by false accusations, character assassination, and attacks on individuals who have devoted their lives to the service of the people.

According to the group, at a time when Ogoniland requires unity, visionary leadership, and collective action to address pressing social and developmental challenges, it is unfortunate that certain individuals continue to promote discord and misinformation within the society.

MOSOGP described Chief Lesi Maol as a respected son of Gokana whose contributions to the Ogoni struggle and community development are visible and well documented. The organization noted that through years of dedication, sacrifice, and service, Chief Maol has consistently stood with the people and contributed meaningfully to the advancement of Ogoniland.

The group maintained that such a legacy cannot be undermined by what it termed baseless accusations and personal attacks. It further stressed that the people of Gokana would no longer remain silent while one of their sons is subjected to public ridicule and unsubstantiated allegations.

MOSOGP therefore called on Chief Gani Tonga to refrain from actions and statements capable of misleading the public, damaging reputations, and creating unnecessary tension within Gokana and the wider Ogoni community.

While acknowledging that criticism and differing opinions are essential elements of any democratic society, the organization emphasized that public discourse must be guided by facts, mutual respect, and a sincere commitment to the common good. It warned that personal attacks only weaken the collective struggle of the Ogoni people and divert attention from issues that require urgent attention.

The group further stated that Chief Lesi Maol's record of service, commitment to community welfare, and unwavering support for the Ogoni cause have earned him widespread respect across Ogoniland and beyond. It added that attempts to diminish his contributions through personal grievances, envy, or jealousy would not succeed in altering the truth.

MOSOGP also urged sons and daughters of Gokana, community leaders, youth organizations, and stakeholders across Ogoniland to reject divisive politics and embrace unity, mutual respect, and constructive engagement.

According to the organization, the people have suffered enough from internal divisions and must now focus on working together to achieve lasting peace, progress, and sustainable development.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that history remembers those who build bridges rather than those who create divisions, urging all stakeholders to choose the path of unity, progress, and development for the benefit of present and future generations.
