BUSINESSMAN WITH PINK LIPS BAGS 7-YEAR JAIL TERM FOR ADVERTISING CANNABIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced 28-year-old Ashiru Idris to seven years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for advertising cann@bis sativa for sale on social media.

The conviction, secured by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), was delivered by Justice S.M. Shuaibu on July 14, 2026.

According to the NDLEA, Idris was arrested on April 22, 2026, after a video circulated online showing him publicly advertising cann@bis for sale. Operatives of the agency’s Kano Strategic Command carried out the arrest following a directive from the State Commander.

The court ordered that the seven-year prison sentence should take effect from the date of judgment.

Reacting to the verdict, the NDLEA Kano State Commander, CN DY Lawal, described it as a strong warning to anyone involved in promoting or tr@fficking illicit dr¥gs.

“This judgment reinforces our resolve to confront drug offenders who brazenly promote illegal substances on public platforms. We will continue to act swiftly on credible leads and ensure offenders are brought to justice.”

The agency also urged members of the public to support the fight against dr¥g tr@fficking and substance ab¥se by providing credible information to security agencies.

The Ogoni Dialogue Committee, ODC, has denied claims that it influenced the allocation of 40 job slots at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, or played any role in the award of government contracts. Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, ODC Chairman, Professor Don Baridam, said the 40 employment opportunities were proposed as part of confidence-building measures in the Ogoni dialogue with the Federal Government. A 31-year-old mother, Kenya Glasgow, and her two-year-old daughter, Kennedi, have been k+lled by lightning during a thunderstorm in Margate, south-east Florida.
