I'M THE FIRST GOVERNOR IN NIGERIA TO RULE A STATE FOR EIGHT YEARS WITHOUT OWNING A HOUSE - FORMER OSUN STATE GOVERNOR, RAUF AREGBESOLA

National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has declared that he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to serve for eight years without owning a personal house.

The former Osun State governor, who was once a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, said he lived in a friend’s house throughout his tenure in office.

Speaking in a video shared with his supporters, Aregbesola said:
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own.

He added, “I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land. Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”

Aregbesola, who also served as Minister of Interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari, governed Osun State from 2010 to 2018.

Reflecting on his administration, he said his government was focused on banishing poverty, hunger and unemployment, restoring healthy living, promoting functional education, and enhancing communal peace and progress.

SENATE BACKS FRSC BILL WITH N100,000 FINE AND TRAFFIC LIGHT VIOLATIONS, N50,000 FOR PREACHING IN BUSES

The Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing significantly tougher penalties for traffic offences across the country. Under the amendment, anyone convicted of “failure to obey traffic lights, road signs, pavement or road markings” will be liable to a N100,000 fine. The bill also prescribes a N50,000 fine for anyone found “hawking, trading or preaching” inside commercial buses. The proposed law further raises the penalty for driving under the influence of alcoh%l or intox+cating dr¥gs from N5,000 to N100,000, with offenders also facing up to two years’ imprisonment or both upon conviction. Motorists who refuse to cooperate with FRSC officials during roadside breath tests conducted on reasonable suspicion will also face a N50,000 fine, six months’ imprisonment, or both. PRES. TRUMP INTRODUCES NEW RULE TO LIMIT THE LENGTH OF FOREIGN STUDENTS' STAY

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced new visa rules that will limit how long foreign students, exchange visitors and journalists can stay in the United States.  Under the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy, most international students and exchange visitors will be allowed to stay for a maximum of four years, while foreign journalists will receive visas valid for up to 240 days. Chinese journalists will be limited to 90 days.  Anyone wishing to remain beyond the approved period must apply for an extension or leave the U.S. and reapply. SUPREME COURT ORDERS FINAL FORFEITURE OF EMEFIELE'S LUXURY PROPERTIES

The Supreme Court on Friday, July 17, 2026 affirmed the final forfeiture of seven landed properties, the sum of $2,045,000 (Two Million, Forty-Five Thousand United States Dollars) and share certificates linked to a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested and detained four police officers for allegedly extorting ₦53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN), during an illegal stop-and-search operation in Abuja. Briefing journalists on Monday, FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi described the officers as “th+eves” who had no business wearing the police uniform. Sanusi said investigations showed the officers abandoned their designated duty posts, converged around the Banex area of Wuse, mounted an unauthorized checkpoint, and extorted the ICPC chairman without knowing his identity.
