RIVERS' KAANI DAUGHTER SAYS SHE IS THE FIRST LAW GRADUATE IN BOTH HER MATERNAL AND PATERNAL FAMILIES

Baribefi Sharon Letambari, a native of Kaani in Ogoniland, Rivers State, Nigeria, has sparked widespread reactions on social media following a viral congratulatory post celebrating her graduation with a Law degree from the University of Port Harcourt.

In a heartfelt message, the newly qualified law graduate revealed that she is the first person in both her maternal and paternal families to earn a degree in Law.

«"First Law graduate in both my mother's and my father's family," she wrote.»

Her statement quickly drew attention online, with many people congratulating her on the remarkable achievement and applauding her for breaking new ground in her family.

However, the post also generated debate, as some social media users questioned whether there are still families without a law graduate, given the increasing accessibility of university education and professional courses such as Law in recent years.

SUPREME COURT ORDERS FINAL FORFEITURE OF EMEFIELE'S LUXURY PROPERTIES

The Supreme Court on Friday, July 17, 2026 affirmed the final forfeiture of seven landed properties, the sum of $2,045,000 (Two Million, Forty-Five Thousand United States Dollars) and share certificates linked to a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government of Nigeria. SENATE BACKS FRSC BILL WITH N100,000 FINE AND TRAFFIC LIGHT VIOLATIONS, N50,000 FOR PREACHING IN BUSES

The Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing significantly tougher penalties for traffic offences across the country. Under the amendment, anyone convicted of “failure to obey traffic lights, road signs, pavement or road markings” will be liable to a N100,000 fine. The bill also prescribes a N50,000 fine for anyone found “hawking, trading or preaching” inside commercial buses. The proposed law further raises the penalty for driving under the influence of alcoh%l or intox+cating dr¥gs from N5,000 to N100,000, with offenders also facing up to two years’ imprisonment or both upon conviction. Motorists who refuse to cooperate with FRSC officials during roadside breath tests conducted on reasonable suspicion will also face a N50,000 fine, six months’ imprisonment, or both.
