"I STARTED SELLING AKARA AND BREAD. I MADE NOT LESS THAN N10MILLION IN A MONTH" - AKWA IBOM GOVERNOR, UMO ENO

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has recounted how he ventured into the sale of akara and bread, saying the business generated not less than ₦10 million for him every month.

“We still have that shop there, and I started selling akara and bread. We were doing bread and akara burger. We opened the bread and put akara in it for you,” Eno said.

He explained that workers heading to work would buy the akara and bread in the morning, alongside coffee from a coffee shop he also started.

“People going to work at ExxonMobil would buy it in the morning and take coffee. We started a coffee shop, and then they would take it every morning,” he said.

According to him, the akara and bread business became a significant source of income, generating at least ₦10 million monthly.

“That akara business and that bread used to give me not less than ten million naira, not less than that,” Eno said.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has, however, directed that the suspect be granted bail and placed on counselling because of her advanced age, while her daughter has been arrested.

WHATSAPP TO START CHARGING NIGERIA BUSINESSES FROM OCTOBER 2026

Businesses using Meta’s WhatsApp Business Platform will begin paying for certain customer messages from October 1, 2026, following a new pricing structure announced by the company. The new policy applies primarily to organisations that use the WhatsApp Business Platform, formerly known as the WhatsApp Business API, to handle customer communications at scale. However, regular WhatsApp users and small businesses using the standard WhatsApp Business app are not the primary targets of the new charges. Under the revised pricing model, fees will vary depending on the type of message businesses send to customers. King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the traditional ruler of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom and recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s youngest reigning monarch, has d+ed at the age of 34. The Ogoni Dialogue Committee, ODC, has denied claims that it influenced the allocation of 40 job slots at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, or played any role in the award of government contracts. Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, ODC Chairman, Professor Don Baridam, said the 40 employment opportunities were proposed as part of confidence-building measures in the Ogoni dialogue with the Federal Government. He, however, stressed that the committee neither selected nor recruited the beneficiaries, saying NNPCL relied on its existing recruitment database to identify qualified Ogoni applicants. Professor Baridam acknowledged that some ODC members submitted names for consideration but said the nominations did not determine the final selection.
