MY TOUGH DECISIONS ARE FINALLY PAYING OFF - PRES. TINUBU REACTS TO NIGERIA'S GDP GROWTH

President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria’s economy is now on an irreversible path to stronger growth following the latest GDP figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS reported that Nigeria’s real GDP grew by 4.43% year on year  in the second quarter of 2026, up from 4.23% recorded in the same period in 2025.

Reacting to the figures, Tinubu said the growth showed that the economic reforms implemented by his administration were yielding results, insisting that the economy had been stabilised after three years of what he described as necessary reforms.

“In the past three years, we tried to do the hard part by implementing the necessary reforms to stabilise the economy. Now the economy is stabilised, and we have laid the foundation for a prosperous nation,” he said. The results of the efforts are becoming very clear to all,The Renewed Hope Agenda is working.

The president also pointed to stronger foreign reserves, improved credit ratings, increased oil production, trade surpluses and renewed investor interest as evidence of progress.

“Because of those tough decisions, today Nigeria has trade surpluses. Our foreign reserves are at their highest in 17 years. Our credit rating has moved up several notches,” Tinubu said.

He added that the government would now focus on ensuring that the improved economic performance translates into better living conditions, with measures expected to target cheaper transportation, increased food production and other relief programmes for vulnerable Nigerians.

“We are fully committed to translating consistent, stronger economic performance into better microeconomic outcomes for our citizens,” he said.
