APPEAL COURT AFFIRMS ABDULRAHMAN-LED PDP CARETAKER COMMITTEE, DISMISSES TURAKI GROUP'S APPEAL
In a significant legal victory for the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki Group challenging the judgment of the Federal High Court (FHC), Ibadan, which recognized the Abdulrahman-led PDP Caretaker Committee.
The appellate court upheld the earlier decision of the Federal High Court, which had, in January this year, declined to recognize the executive produced by the Turaki Group’s Ibadan convention and instead affirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led Caretaker Committee.
The caretaker committee had supervised the PDP National Convention that produced the current members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Delivering its judgment, the Court of Appeal held that the appeal had become merely academic and failed to present any live issue warranting judicial intervention, thereby dismissing the case in its entirety.
The ruling effectively reinforces the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led Caretaker Committee and the National Working Committee elected under its supervision, bringing further judicial clarity to the leadership structure of the opposition party.
