The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) special investigative team has successfully arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, the individual alleged to have originated and created the fake AI-generated voice note that was passed off as the authentic voice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dennis was apprehended in Benin City, Edo State. According to reports, he is suspected of producing the manipulated audio clip, which was widely circulated on social media and used to mislead the public. The fake voice note was edited and shared in ways that sparked significant controversy, including links to content involving activist Very Dark Man (VDM), and raised concerns about potential ethnic tensions and public unrest.

The suspect reportedly created and controlled multiple social media pages involved in spreading the content. A tech expert had earlier traced the origin of the AI voice note back to Dennis, prompting calls for his arrest by security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to issue an official statement soon, providing more details on the circumstances of the arrest, the full scope of the investigation, and any charges that may be filed against the suspect.

This development comes amid heightened concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create deepfakes and disinformation, particularly those targeting high-profile public figures and capable of inciting division.
