The Federal High Court has dismissed a copyright suit filed by Michael Oluwole against renowned Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter, , affirming her as the sole author and owner of the globally acclaimed worship song, "Way Maker." In Suit No. FHC/L/CS/402/2024 , the plaintiff sought a declaration recognizing him as a co-author and co-owner of the musical work. He also requested a share of the income generated from licences and assignments of the song, alleged infringement of his performer's rights, and demanded ₦5 billion in general damages. Delivering judgment, Hon. Justice A. Lewis-Allagoa held that the plaintiff failed to establish any legal basis for his claims of authorship or co-ownership. An Upper Area Court in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State has sentenced Kabiru Umar to five years in prison after he admitted to abandoning his pregnant secondary school girlfriend despite initially accepting responsibility for the pregnancy.  The case was filed by the girl’s father, Mohammed Njidda, and the victim through their lawyer, Abdulrahman Njidda, who accused the defendant of neglecting the girl after impregnating her.  According to the court, the convict had approached the girl’s father to seek her hand in marriage without disclosing that she was already pregnant. A commercial bus driver, Mr. Ifeanyi Ukwaja, from Umegunpa in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, has been arrested over allegations that he deliberately caused a f@tal road crash after a disagreement with a passenger.  According to the police, Ukwaja, a driver with Agbasi City Mass Transit Nigeria Limited, had earlier this month loaded passengers from Onitsha en route to Lagos. The Senate has debunked claims that the proposed amendment to the Federal Road Safety Commission Establishment Act seeks to introduce a fresh ban on preaching or hawking in commercial vehicles. According to the upper chamber, preaching and hawking in commercial vehicles have been offences under Nigerian law since the FRSC Establishment Act was enacted in 2007. The Senate explained that the provision, previously listed as Item 36 in the Second Schedule of the Act, was only renumbered as Item 49 in the ongoing amendment process. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has predicted that money could become irrelevant by 2036 as artificial intelligence and robots become capable of producing more goods and services than humans could ever consume. Speaking during an interview with The Economist, Musk declared, “Money won’t matter in 2036.” When interviewer Zanny Minton Beddoes questioned the prediction, Musk explained, “What do you want money for? You want money for goods and services, right? The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South-West zone, has rejected the proposed ban on preaching inside commercial vehicles, warning that the measure could violate Nigerians’ constitutional rights. The reaction follows the passage of the Federal Road Safety Corps (Amendment) Bill, 2026, by the Senate. The bill proposes a ₦50,000 fine for anyone convicted of hawking, trading or preaching inside commercial vehicles. It also prescribes a ₦50,000 fine, six months’ imprisonment, or both for motorists who refuse to cooperate with FRSC officials during roadside breath tests conducted on reasonable suspicion.
